Ice Dancing: My Gold, Silver and Bronze Picks

Ice Dancing: My Gold, Silver and Bronze Picks

Twizzles: a multirotational one-foot turn in figure skating, most commonly seen in ice dancing.

Last night Meryl Davis and Charlie White twizzled their way into the history books being the first-ever US team to win Olympic gold in ice dancing. Well deserved considering they’ve been skating together since diapers. Special shoutout to Derek Hough who choreographed their short program – just exquisite!

The Cut recently released an article covering the mysterious world of figure skating, and it’s definitely worth a read – mainly because it’s all true. Think Dance Moms on ice.

Other than the hockey, ice dancing is probably my favorite event to watch during the Olympic games – and not just because I used to partake (fun fact: two of my coaches were Russian Olympians – what up Sochi!). Sadly, my skating career ended at the young age of 14 when I realized I was better dancing on two feet rather than knives, but that doesn’t stop me from being in awe of the costumes that are always a show of their own.

My bronze, silver and gold (costume) picks..

BRONZE:

Chock/Bates – Both inspired by the recent movie (hopefully excluding the Anne Hathaway scenes), their free dance was to music from Les Mis. I love that Chock helped design the costumes and felt they complimented the music perfectly, no?

SILVER:

Davis/White – Dressed as a Persian Queen to match the story of the music, Meryl looked radiant in the color of the year. Can we talk about her headpiece?! Obsessed.

GOLD:

Ilinykh/Katsalapov – Mark my word, this Russian duo will be the ones to beat next games. Ilinykh’s plunging-v tutu was the perfect choice for their Black Swan themed routine – and her ruby crown was the perfect cherry on top of a sensational costume. How cool is it that the pair worked with members of Cirque du Soleil to come up with their innovative maneuvers?!

Special shoutout to the Shib Sibs who did their routine to a medley of Michael Jackson. You’ll get ’em next time kids – or not.

Twizzlers really missed out by not jumping on the ‘twizzle’ zamboni. #YouLose
