Space is shiny and sleek, and fashion is always looking to infinity and beyond.” -Bill Nye, The Science Guy

Answering the impossible question: What’s your favorite movie? Disney Channel’s Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century has and always will be my answer. What’s not to love about a mischievous teen who grapples with gravity, Earth culture and a villain intent on destroying her space-station home? Zenon was able to communicate with her bestie from space via FaceTime (before ALL of us) and had a wardrobe full of neon colored spandex.

It seems as though everywhere you turn these days, people are fixated on wearing space gear. Hear me out…

At Paris Fashion Week last season, Karl Lagerfeld outdid himself by launching a literal rocket for the finale of his fall 2017 Chanel show. The collection featured cosmic prints, silver space boots, and planetary purses. Shortly after, Gucci launched a campaign which starred a UFO and aliens. And Urban Outfitters is actually selling NASA shirts, bomber jackets, and hats. ABC is literally developing a live-action sitcom version of The Jetsons, the classic Hanna-Barbera animated series.

With this week’s eclipse and Mercury being in retrograde – which explains a lot of my life’s mishaps these past few days – the Space Age trend is extremely apparent. People are fantasizing over space travel – which I’ll chalk up to Elon Musk – but for me, fashion is about adventure, and that is exactly what space is – it’s exploring; never-ending.
