Siren

Mermaids, government cover-ups, and guys with great brows – what more could you need from Freeform’s new sci-fi show, Siren? I truly don’t think I’ve been this excited for a premiere since The O.C.

Siren

The series is based around Bristol Cove – a coastal town that legend has was once home to mermaids – and the battle between man and sea as these “predators” seek to claim their birthright.

Marine biologist Ben (played by Alex Roe) has a line in the first episode about how 95% of the ocean remains unexplored – pretty sure my ex has photographed the other 5% – so there’s definitely potential of mythical creatures existing down there. Not that I’ve EVER questioned this. A quick Google history search on my computer proves I’m a believer…

Mermaids are one of the few supernatural creatures who haven’t been explored yet on television so I especially love that show creator, Eric Wald, draws his inspiration for Siren from Steven Spielberg’s 1975 horror classic – Jaws. Mermaid Ryn (played by Game of Thrones‘ Eline Powell who doesn’t even look entirely human) is perfectly cast and really adds to the intrigue and sexiness of the show that Wald and the network were aiming for. Girl legit murders an attempted rapist twenty minutes in so she’s definitely seen as more of a monster than a damsel.
