Met Gala 2018: Heavenly Bodies

Met Gala 2018

Stars took us to church in their Sunday best at last night’s Met Gala. The theme this year being “Heavenly Bodies” and the Catholic religion’s (major!) influence on fashion.

There were so many interesting references made as well as an overwhelming amount of opulence, gold, embellishments – and headpieces! Olivia Munn was dipped in H&M Conscious Collection gold. Her veil was such a modern interpretation while Kate Bosworth looked like the quintessential Catholic bride. Amanda Seyfried stunned in an ethereal Vatican yellow. Katy Perry auditioned to be a Victoria’s Secret angel and Met newcomer, Ariana Grande’s Vera Wang gown was inspired by the Sistine Chapel. The Pope Rihanna wore a mini dress and answered all our prayers and Selena Gomez even had her favorite bible verse embroidered on her dress.

It was a big night for Italian fashion as religion is their cultural heartbeat. Dolce & Gabbana grew up with the church and imagery so they had a strong interpretation and view of how they wanted SJP’s dress to look – and they served us exactly what we wanted – and expected! I’d also like to note that this theme was MADE for Madonna.

If I had to pick one look, I think my favorite of the night would have to be Diane Kruger’s Prabal Gurung. Very Virgin Mary.
