Peacock’s Saved By The Bell revival is so self-aware and timely.

“Everyone thinks Fleabag was so good and sophisticated” for breaking the fourth wall, joked Tracey Wigfield (who developed the reboot). “I’m like, it’s just Zack Morris.”

The refashioned series casts Zack (Mark-Paul Gosselaar) as the governor of California, with Kelly (Tiffani Thiessen) as his first lady, and Slater (Mario Lopez) and Jessie (Elizabeth Berkley Lauren) working at Bayside High, a school that’s practically frozen in 1993. After Zack cuts funding to California public schools, he’s forced to reassign students from lower-income neighborhoods into affluent suburbs – and with that, the scheming and pranks ensues!

Enter Josie Totah.

Totah who plays popular trans cheerleader, Lexi, is a comedic stand out, which doesn’t come as a shock for those of us who watched the scene-stealer in Champions.  The actress, who is also a producer on the show, not only delivered in her performance, but served us some serious looks as well.

The iconic ’90s fashion of the original is one of the main reasons (like Wigfield) Saved By The Bell was my Star Wars growing up so I’m happy to have some fresh looks – with nostalgic feels – to idolize.
