The Metaphorical Fashion of The White Lotus

I’ve heard through the grapevine that this season will make even the most agamic, extremely horny and if you ask me, season 2 of The White Lotus could not be coming at a better time.  The Spring 2023 runway shows are wrapped and with colder months approaching, my eyes are already set on vacation apparel inspo.

The plot of the Emmy-winning show – created by Survivor alum, Mike White – is simple as it follows the exploits and misadventures of various guests and employees at a tropical resort over the course of one week.  The depth the actors bring to their characters is profound, but it’s the costumes I find to be most impactful.

It was thrilling to spot plot points by way of wardrobe last season so I’m hoping the same goes for the new.  Who could forget that green (for money) leather tote that got SO much air time.  It was purposefully used as a metaphor for the gold-digging personality Rachel is accused of having.  My full deep dive into the S1 fashion can be seen here.

After a quick glance (at a few stills), I’m already fangirling over the manager’s pink power suit parallel.  Armond wore a breezy linen version in S1 to greet guests and it can be assumed Valentina is wearing a more polished style in S2 to do the same.

Set in Sicily, S2 has no shortage of kaftans, chiffon scarves, slogan tops and statement sunnies, but TBD on the character defining staples.  I’m intrigued by Lucia’s wardrobe as it seems very locally sourced.  Her Gen Z jewelry, keyhole crop top and sickest mini skirt I’ve ever seen makes me think she’s a lady of the night, but we shall see.

I should note, Mike White teased the possibility of a few cameos from former Survivor contestants so if you’re a fan, def keep your eyes peeled!  While Aubrey Plaza is apparently the season 2 scene stealer, I am way too excited for the world to meet Meghann Fahy aka Sutton from The Bold Type.

The White Lotus premieres this Sunday, October 30 on HBO Max.  Will you be tuning in?!
