I Gotta Go…Bye: Emmys 2013

i gotta go...bye: emmys 2013

Once a year, the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences come together for the Primetime Emmys telecast. The Emmy is a symbol of peer recognition – or as I like to call it “the people’s roast” for every presenter, nominee, winner, etc. With that said, let’s get to it..

If you chose to skip the E! red carpet coverage, you failed. From Lena Dunham hijacking Ryan Seacrest’s job, to Sofia Vergara plugging her Kmart line, the stars were in rare form. The ‘Mani Cam’ (the true star of the pre-show) has become a huge part of the red carpet experience. Cover Girl’s ‘Always Naked‘ nude polish was a hit and will likely sell out momentarily. This year, E! took it a step further with the ‘Mani Gram’ – proof that Instagram will eventually rule the world.

The awards show was the typical snooze fest. The Liberace tribute was highly unnecessary, but at least Elton (the King of Sparkles) was on trend with the color of the night – cobalt blue. Allison Williams (dressed in Ralph Lauren) and Tina Fey (who crawled on stage J.Law style with bestie Amy Poehler) both stunned in the rich hue.

Dear Carrie Underwood: Miss America was LAST week. Drop the pageant hair stat.

High necklines, long sleeves, sheer, lace overlays, pastels and blush colored gowns took over the Nokia Center…

Girls’ Zosia Mamet wore a custom made frock by Honor. While most hated on this dress, I applaud her for doing something different and embracing the tie-dye trend.

Aubrey Plaza and Amanda Peet both worked the luxe punk look and nailed it.

Snaps to Mad Men’s 13-year-old actress, Kiernan Shipka for dressing her age in a floral Delpozo gown. Flawless.

January Jones, Connie Britton, and Kerry Washington still have me questioning whether I love or love-to-hate their looks.

Someone please weigh in. Is the faux bob the new extension? Aren’t we glad Anne Hatheway’s career is limited to the big screen?
