The Nokia Theater was packed full of talent – sans Jessica Biel – for last night’s AMAs in downtown Los Angeles.
From geishas to cowgirls to a Lisa Frank tribute, the performances were flop after flop – with the exception of Nelly reliving his ‘Ride with Me‘ glory days. Anyone else think Avicii could be Taylor Swift’s long lost brother? What made Jennifer Lopez think this was her Dancing with the Stars audition? Billy and Mama Rae really need to teach Miley’s younger sister some manners. I get it – I hate Taylor too, but if the entire theater is standing and clapping for the girl, you probably should as well – especially since T-Swizzle’s seated right next to you. This snub literally happened every time Swifty won an award – which was A LOT.
Prior to Sarah Silverman’s racial profiling and Katy Perry dancing around stage in socks, the red carpet was filled with silver metallic shoes, nude nails, and white on white looks. See: Kendall Jenner (whose necklace was AH-mazing), Nicole Richie, Zendaya, and Miley Cyrus.
Lady Gaga paid tribute to Bianca Jagger by riding in on a ‘white horse’ just as the Queen of Studio 54 once did for her birthday in the 1970s. The Art Pop diva wore a not-so-terrible dress by Versace which was a collab between herself and Donatella. I sort of loved it.
Taylor Swift – who took home 4 awards – was also inspired by the 70s. The world’s most awkward dancer wore a micro mini by Julien MacDonald and channeled her inner Farrah Fawcett and went retro with layered locks.
THANK YOU Taylor Jacobson for getting Ariana Grande out of her uniform baby doll dress. The Favorite New Artist of the Year winner stunned in a red body-con Dolce and Gabbana number. Loved it. Now if we could only get her to change up that hairdo….
Emma Roberts – dressed in a strapless, metallic maxi by Lanvin – is my pick for best dressed (I wonder if E!’s Fashion Police will agree tonight at 9pm). Few can pull off Lanvin and Emma killed it. Any one else obsessed with her smokey eye?
Naya Rivera’s hair gets an honorable mention. Girl shut.it.down.
