Dark

The ambitious new binge (which I watched in one sitting, #NoShame) Dark, is Netflix’s first ever German-language series. This definitely scared me off at first, which is why I’m just writing about it now – think; English dub & subtitles, but once I heard “supernatural” – and time-traveling dogs – I was IN. Although, I’d call Dark a bit more scientific since it’s based on the Albert Einstein theory that time is not linear, but a circle.

If you listen to my podcast, it’s mostly (if not all) about black holes and the string theory, so Dark was a welcomed post-Christmas treat. The series is looped through three different time periods: 2019, 1986, and 1953 and has 72 main characters – excluding extras, so it’s definitely Game of Thrones level confusing. Not to mention, the pronunciation of them all. Reminder: they are German…

Secrets, lies, sins, cover-ups – and missing teens – all hidden within the tiny German town of Winden makes for an intricate puzzle filled with twists!

WARNING: Spoilers Ahead.

While watching the first few episodes, I made note that Jonas would definitely be the relief Winden needs all based on the color of his jacket. I know I sound crazy so hear me out…

I just recently finished Breaking Bad (yes, I’m way late to the party, I know.) and in googling why Marie wore a yellow shirt and not her usual purple in one episode, I learned that yellow was used as a sign of optimism – the hope that is Jonas!

Did you guys also notice how cheeky the wardrobe stylists got with this? Obsessed.

After finishing Season One, I was left with SO many unanswered questions, which I’m sure is the entire point. Like why didn’t Jonas come back through the portal and instantly demand a blood test to prove Martha is his Aunt?! Who was Jonas’ mum pointing the gun at? What happened between Jonas’ dad and Martha last summer?

And how quickly we forgot about Erik the ginger. How does he play into this whole thing?!…

Okay, seriously, does anyone own an umbrella in the town of Winden?
