Grease: Live

I won Senior Class Queen in high school, have been followed by Britney Spears on Twitter, and worked with the late Joan Rivers, but nothing and I mean NOTHING has made me as excited as last night’s production of “Grease Live.” When I joke that I got my Fitbit steps in for the day by dancing along like a complete you know what, it’s no exaggeration.

“Grease” has always held a special place in my heart. When I was younger, I performed (like most everyone) in the musical and would watch the movie on repeat whenever I was home sick from school. I dreamt of getting a hickey from Kenickie and being a Pink Lady in real life rather than just one for Halloween. They were the original “Mean Girls,” after all.

With cameos from Jan Brady, Boyz II Men, DNCE, and a few original “Grease” cast members (how trippy was it seeing Carly Rae Jepsen and Didi Conn together?!) the show was bound to be a success.

Grease Live” was performed on the Warner Bros lot in Burbank and let me tell you, I was there last year and it literally took me three+ hours to tour. When I heard Julianne Hough was doing her costume changes on a golf cart while being rushed from set to set, I wasn’t surprised. It’s massive.

The ’50s-set musical had a modern twist – in the best way possible. I was OBSESSED with the Greased Lightning choreography and the new hand jive moves. Well done, Zach Woodlee.

El Nino was the special guest of the evening, Trip van der Bilt from Gossip Girl played Danny Zuko (and wore some pretty short shorts), and Julianne Hough who played Sandy snuck in a cute one liner for her “DWTS” fans.

Tell me I’m not the only one who cried every time Vanessa Hudgens had a scene. She announced earlier in the day that her father had lost his battle with cancer the night prior and that she was going to do the show in his honor. Girl KILLED IT. She had Rizzo’s body language down to a science and, in my opinion, stole the show. Her dad would be proud. Snaps for her strength.

Grease: Live

After the shortest three hours of my life, “Grease Live” ended and I literally felt the mic drop. So major.

Special shoutout to Blanch and her 34DD strapless bra and Elle McLemore aka Patty Simcox. I was thoroughly entertained.
