How to Prep for Awards Season

How to Prep for Awards Season

I’ve been binging Breaking Bad the past two weekends and the season three finale is hands down the best thing ever done on television. Like seriously, how have I not watched this sooner?! It totally lives up to the hype! Also, those bottle episodes like the “Fly” and that rogue episode of Stranger Things season two are sort of a buzz kill, but truly highlight the actor’s craft.

With the Golden Globe nominations being released this morning, I’m already jumping for joy over the faces that will be gracing the red carpet this season. Think; James Franco, Margot Robbie, Claire Foy, the Game of Thrones & Stranger Things cast, etc!!!

It’s nearly impossible to watch everything (except for the movies, because that’s a given), so I decided to break down the shows we should be “in the know” on to fully appreciate this upcoming awards season.

Stranger Things

This is obviously a given. I’m actually judging you if you haven’t watched this yet.

This is Us

I refuse to watch because I hear it’s an emotional rollercoaster, but from what I hear, this show will pull on your heartstrings in the best way possible.

Big Little Lies

Just got picked up for season 2! Plus, Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Zoe Kravitz – need I say more?

SMILF

I’ve seen previews for this and it actually looks pretty funny, but now with a nomination and all, I think I’m going to give the “single mom who struggles to find a happy work-life balance” a chance.

Master of None

This has been on my must-watch list for a while now and I finally got around to watching the pilot episode the other day. It’s okayyyy, but if you ask me, Friends from College is better.

The Handmaid’s Tale

Everyone I’ve talked to who’s watched this says it’s a MUST, but I can’t get passed the costumes.

Shameless

My hair girl said I need to give this show a chance, plus, it’s been in the awards show circuit for quite some time, so it must be good. Convince me in the comments…

The Crown

I binged season one on a flight to and from Tahoe last year and can’t wait to get around to watching the newly released second season. The Queen is ruthless – she legit forbid her sister from marrying a divorcee.

GLOW

I’m going to be brutally honest, I thought this series sucked, but gave it a chance since Alison Brie’s name was attached. When she’s not acting alongside her hubby, Dave Franco, she produces her pet project, Teachers, which is legit so freaking funny.

The Deuce

Speaking of Francos, The Deuce has been sitting in my DVR for months now. I heard James Franco plays a twin!

13 Reasons Why

Warning: look away from the screen during the actual suicide scene, but otherwise, this show is gold. What else would you expect from Selena Gomez.

Special shout-out to I, Tonya for snagging a ‘Best Motion Picture’ nom and Ansel Elgort for his ‘Best Performance’ nom for his role in – get this – Baby Driver

The Disaster Artist better sweep.
