Late Night Movie

Went to a pre-screening of Mindy Kaling’s new movie, Late Night last night – which I loved. Maybe because I’d push someone in front of a subway train (a la Frank Underwood/Zoe Barnes) for the chance to write for Busy Tonight (RIP) – or I’m just biased because I truly believe Mindy Kaling can do no wrong.

The plot centers around a late-night talk show host’s world and how it’s turned upside down when she hires her first and only female staff writer. Originally intended to smooth over diversity concerns, her decision brings about unexpectedly hilarious consequences as the two women who are separated by culture and generation become united by their love of a biting punchline.

Late Night is full of extremely useful tips for anyone in the workplace environment.

We learn sleeping with a co-worker will never end well – especially if you’re married to someone else. Racial slurs, nepotism, and petty office gossip will bring bad karma to those guilty – so like, STOP. Always overdress for work – and never allow others to affect or dilute your personality.

And my favorite bit of advice from John Lithgow’s character:

Be useful. Even if someone doesn’t like you, make sure they need you.

Late Night hits theaters June 7th.
