Met Gala 2019 | Camp: Notes on Fashion

Since ‘camp’ has no uniform definition, this year’s Met Gala theme created a particularly difficult framework for stylists and attendees. The anti-theme – set to dethrone the serious – allowed invitees to embrace the ridiculous, the hilarious and the glamorous. All at the same time, which I fully enjoyed.

My personal definition of ‘camp’ would be poor taste done really well. An exaggeration of one’s true self.

Early 2000s red carpet fashion certainly served up some inspiration – see: Ashley Tisdale – and Lady Gaga and Katy Perry took the art of being extra to new heights certainly embracing the humor and irony of the event. People claimed space with their shoulders. Priyanka and Nick (Jonas!) came full circle (see: Met Gala 2017). My love language is neon, pink, florals and over-sized bows so this year’s Met most definitely spoke to me.
