What happens when you come down with a 48-hour stomach flu the day of the Emmys? I honestly was more devastated than Kevin Spacey losing to Rami Malek, who by the way, TOTALLY deserved that win – Team Elliot! Seeing as I was too sick to watch the show live, I played it back the next day, but did, however, force myself to watch the red carpet in real time.
Fresh off New York fashion week, I was hoping stars would incorporate some of the runway’s predictions into their red carpet looks. Everything is SO ’90s right now, so I was expecting to see lots of chokers, velvet, slip dresses, crop tops, and sexy bedhead hair a la Rachel Green.
“It’s 2016, break some rules!” -Brad Goreski said it best.
Obviously, my best dressed of the night goes to Sarah Paulson’s Prada. I mean, she dressed and prepared a speech knowing her role of Marcia Clark (who was also her plus one) would take home a win, so snaps.
I was a bit puzzled by Sarah Hyland and Constance Zimmer’s (both in Monique Lhuillier) looks. Emilia Clark and Claire Danes chose to match their gowns to their skin tones. I think Sophie Turner may have possibly hinted at a Game of Thrones spoiler? She and bestie Maisie Williams sported matching tattoos of the date they both found out they were cast on the series. Instead of waiting for the series to conclude, Turner joked, “We don’t know if we’re going to make it, so Maisie and I were like let’s get these ones before anyone kills us.”
Once the kids from Stranger Things hit the carpet, it was all over for me. The kid with the lisp feeds my soul and Millie is just so poised beyond her years. Her customized clutch was the perfect accessory to her Valentino Red gown. Can we talk about them riding on their bikes to hand out mid-show snacks to the audience? According to host, Jimmy Kimmel, I’d apparently be considered an “annoying celeb” if I were one because I’m both gluten free AND allergic to peanuts… Sorry, not sorry!
