What to Expect from New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2019

New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2019

Nothing quite compares to the nonsense that is New York Fashion Week. While street style photogs risk their lives to capture yours (and other Z-lister’s) looks as you furiously search for Uber in hopes of not being tardy to the next presentation, or bonding with ‘that girl from that Surface commercial’ over a granola bar while one of the Real Housewives is having a complete meltdown in the bathroom stall is all very thrilling – much of it’s madness has been lacking the past few seasons.

With major houses – think Alexander Wang, Thom Browne, and Altuzarra – making exits and other designers choosing to show elsewhere, I feel as though NYFW has been on sort of a downward spiral – similar to the housewife’s. However, fashion week officially kicks off tomorrow and I plan to stay optimistic as the lineup has me enticed.

A major highlight will be Ralph Lauren’s 50th anniversary show, which will takeover Manhattan’s Central Park and I’m really looking forward to the Escada and Longchamp runway debut. The fact that Rodarte and Proenza Schouler are back from Paris is huge. They’re like my exes.. just can’t stay away. #Jokes

Last year, fashion’s queen of punk and environmental activist – and my hero! – Vivienne Westwood announced her decision to cease all catwalk shows and replace them with digital presentations in the forms of short films and photographs. She is now slated to present for buyers only. So exclusive!

But I think best of all is the return of Marchesa. Cringe. After sitting out from last season’s fashion week amidst the Harvey Weinstein scandal, the fashion label (which is co-founded by Weinstein’s estranged wife, Georgina Chapman) is back and I’ve smelt an attempted comeback for awhile now. See: Scarlett Johansson at the Met Gala earlier this year, and Vanessa Hudgens appearing in a gown from them at a movie premiere just last month.
