Ryan Murphy is a creative visionary and his latest comedy series is nothing short of a work of art.  The Politician dropped on Netflix a few days ago and I’ve already binged the entire first season.  Listen, I came for the fashion but stayed for the plot so please no judgement..

The Politician is centered around Payton Hobart, a wealthy student from Santa Barbara, who is desperate to win the election for class president to cement his entrance into Harvard and set him on a path to win the US presidency.  However, navigating his way through the political landscape that is Saint Sebastian High School proves to be way more difficult than expected.

Enter Astrid Sloan (played by Lucy Boynton), high school mean girl who is just as power hungry as Payton.  We all know Ryan Murphy loves a bitchy blonde (see: Chanel Oberlin and Quinn Fabray) and Boynton’s character does not disappoint.

The political satire has a very Palm Springs inspired aesthetic – and don’t even get me started on the interior decorating – it’s so obnoxious that it’s just my type.  And the ’80s inspired power suits. OMG. Just watch to see what I mean.  When I went to write this post, nearly everything worn by Boynton’s character was already sold out.  Insane.

According to Ryan Murphy, Astrid’s style plays a bit of homage to Clueless and the London mod scene.  Costume designer, Claire Parkinson, used an equally eclectic lineup of designers including Chanel, Dior, Miu Miu, Sies Marjan and contemporary and high-street labels like Sandro, Maje and Zara for the character.  She also mixed in a bit of designer vintage aka my love language.
