A new year, means a new color. And in my expertise, the runways don’t lie. Periwinkle hues flooded fashion week so when Veri Peri, Pantone’s 2022 Color of the Year, was announced last week, I didn’t bat an eyelash.
A first in the institute’s history, the “dynamic periwinkle blue hue with a vivifying violet red undertone” called Very Peri, or PANTONE 17-3938, is a new color specifically created to represent the year ahead.
According to Leatrice Eiseman, the executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, and Laurie Pressman, the vice president of the Pantone Color Institute, Very Peri embraces the uncertainty and cautious optimism of our moment. “It is a color that really places the future in a new light.”
After a year’s worth of research and trend forecasting, Very Peri was carefully created based on our influence. If I had to guess, I think the Gen Z TikTok crowd (and Y2K nostalgia) helped shape this one, but that’s just my opinion.
From sports to fashion to the metaverse and gaming platforms – the new periwinkle hue is completely reflective of what is happening in the world around us.
