Why Aren’t More People Watching Industry?

Confession: I’ve watched all eight episodes, twice.  It’s that good.

Set in London’s world of high-stakes investment banking, BBC-HBO’s Industry, follows a diverse group of fresh graduates who are the latest hires.

Maybe it’s because I miss being in a high-rise office environment or maybe because we can’t get decked to the nines just to go out dancing if we feel like it anymore, but I found Industry to be one of the most engrossing and entertaining dramas I’ve seen since The Newsroom.

One of the most fascinating (and relatable) storylines from the show was the dynamic between Yasmin and her boss, Kenny (the show’s closest thing to a villian).  Whether we like it or not, we’ve all encountered a “Kenny” at some point in our careers.  Not the coolest or most popular growing up – and clearly a product of school bullying, you can tell Kenny has been stewing, just waiting for the moment he could use his job title as some sort of social status; the thing he has been craving his whole life.  And, unfortunately for Yasmin, she is the one caught in his crossfires.

If you want to live vicariously through a bunch of hard-working, horny twentysomethings experiencing firings, double-crossings, overdoses and hospitalisations while fielding their way through blizzards of cocaine and pharmacies of pills, I highly recommend giving Industry a binge.

All episodes are now streaming on HBO Max.
